Summer Book Club – Hate That Cat

Great discussion last night for our first Summer Book Club gathering! (Click here for the dates and titles for our future meetings.)

Alisa Myles lead our discussion and activities! Here are some of the things we did:

Book Discussion:

Using many of the questions from Sharon Creech’s “Teach Creech” website we had a very thoughtful discussion about this book: LINK

American Sign Language:

ASL signs for “Hate That Cat” https://www.handspeak.com/word/

“This Is Just to Say” by William Carlos Williams translated into ASL by Crom Saunders:

Poetry:

Terms – we discussed each term and found examples from the text: alliteration, assonance, consonance, free verse, prose, concrete poetry, action poetry, symbols, rhythm, rhyme, imagery, metaphor, simile, onomatopoeia.

Next, we created our own poems – check out what the kids came up with!
