Itsy Bitsy Books About Summer!

Here is a list of the books we read during the month of July! With 5 weeks this month we read a LOT of books!

Pippa at the Parade

Sweet book detailing a small town parade. Perfect for the 4th of July in Newtown!

One of my own childhood favorites, Swimmy is the story of a small black fish who looses his family, has an ocean adventure and finds a new school of fish, but before they can be safe they must learn to work together to scare off the big fish. A true classic with gorgeous illustrations.

Boom! Big, Big Thunder & One Small Dog
by Mary Lyn Ray

It is summer and we’ve had our share of thunderstorms! This is a cute book about a small dog that is brave and not scared of anything…. except thunder. Great story to lead a discussion about what thunder is and how to try to stay calm if you are scared of it.  Kids love screaming “BOOM!” throughout the story.

This is one of my favorite Story Time finds. The illustrations are beautiful and sweet and the story is simple but engaging. Many different themes could be explored with this book – directions, opposites, movement, colors, bikes, sharing, taking turns and friendship.  Delightful story about a bike and two friends.
