Flannel Friday – Happy Arbor Day!

Newtown, PA thows one heck of an Arbor Day celebration!  If you want to come on over and check it out it is on Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Brian S. Gregg Memorial Park at 30 N. Chancellor St. in the Boro.  The fun begins at 10 a.m. and it is open to the public.   Please come visit me in the CHALK DRAWING RAIN FOREST! More information can be found at Newtown Patch!

To get ready for our celebration the Wiggleworms had a Story Time all about Trees this week, including trees in the RAIN FOREST!

Here is our flannel rain forest:

For our flannel board game we sang:

“The Rain Forest Song”
(Tune: “If You’re Happy and you Know It”

There are layers in the rain forest, yes indeed (YES INDEED!)
There are layers in the rain forest, yes indeed (YES INDEED!)
(hands up in the air),
Canopy (hands and arms out straight at shoulder level to make an umbrella),
Under-stor-y (criss-cross hands back and forth in front of knees)
AND FLOOR! (point to the ground)
There are layers in the rain forest, yes indeed! (YES INDEED!)

Next we labeled the layers on our felt board rain forest:

And finally, we took turns placing the animals in the layer they live in.  If anyone needed a little help placing their rain forest friend, we would ask, does the animal fly? Climb? Swing? Crawl?

I printed the animals on to milk filters. I found the images of the rain forest animals at these two sites:

(Looking for milk filters?  Try Farm & Fleet (That is just a helpful link – I know they are hard to find!))

Thank you to Lisa at Thrive After Three for hosting this week!
