Chicks and Ducks and Bunnies Oh My!

Today the Wiggleworms started with our Opening Song, where we said hi to the librarian, the books, Mr. Barnsley, the statue of kids reading and our Story Time friends!

WAIT! Who is Mr. Barnsley?!?

A large portrait of Mr.  Joseph Barnsley hangs in the room where we hold Wiggleworms Story Time.  In 1911 Mr. Barnsley donated the land the current library building was built on.  For more information please see: http://newtownlibrarycompany.org/membership/

BOOK: Duck! Rabbit!
by Amy Kraus Rosenthan
illustrated by Erin F. Stead

duck rabbit

Funny book that takes two perspectives of this optical illusion. Are we reading a book about a duck or a rabbit?!?

GAME CUBE!- check out the link to these fun songs we pick by rolling our Game Cube dice!

This week a Wiggleworm helped the Game Cube chose his favorite game – Go Bananas! We sliced PINEAPPLE (a new one for me!) and peeled carrots too!

BOOK: Duck on a Bike
by David Shannon

duck on a bike

Fun read aloud gets all the kids joining in with naming animals and making animal sounds – and the animals all get to ride bikes. Win-win!

Game: Duck Memory

P1090976 P1090977

When the kids arrived they all wrote their names (or helped me write them) on a circle which was attached to the spinner.  This is what we used to pick whose turn was next. We used the ducks to play a memory matching game. For more about this game see Flannel Friday Duck Memory Matching.

Uke Song: Sleeping Bunnies

See the little bunnies sleeping,
‘Til it’s nearly noon,
Come and let us gently wake then,
With a merry tune.
Oh how still!
Are the ill?
Wake up soon!
Hop little bunnies, hop hop hop!
Hop little bunnies, hop hop hop!

BOOK: The Black Rabbit
by Philippa Leathers

black rabbit

Someone keeps following Rabbit around – it is scaring him!  Then that someone comes in very handy. Delightful book that is fun to read aloud as you watch the kids discover who is scaring Rabbit!

Flannel Story: B-U-N-N-Y

P1090980 P1090981

There was a rabbit I once knew,
And Bunny was his name-o
B-U-N-N-Y, B-U-N-N-Y, B-U-N-N-Y
And Bunny was his name-o

2nd verse we HOP for the letter B
3rd verse we HOP for the letters B and U
etc… until we are just hopping!

Bonus Book: Hey, Duck!
by Carin Bramsen

hey duck

Another cute book about perspective – Duck is sure that his new friend is just like him, and Cat is not pleased at all! Cute book about friendship.
