Today the Wiggleworms started with our Opening Song, where we said hi to the librarian, the books, the paintings and our Story Time friends.

BOOK: Split! Splat!
by Amy Gibson
Illustrated by Steve Bjorkman
Delightful rhyming book using mostly nonsense words to make the sounds of a rainstorm, and playing in puddles and mud.
Using our fingers and hands we tapped and clapped a thunderstorm that subsided and the sun came out. One of our Wiggleworms suggested we have a rain shower with the sun out so we could make a rainbow! We learned the ASL sign for rainbow. Very fun!
BOOK: Kite Day
by Will Hillenbrand
Funny adventures of Bear and Mole attempting to fly a kite! Their misfortune turns into an advantage for some new friends.
This week we danced with scarves to “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” from Mary Poppins
Bonus Book: Stuck
by Oliver Jeffers
Hilarious book about a young boy who gets his kite stuck in a tree… so of course the logical thing for him to do is throw his shoe up there – ooops, bad plan. Tons of fun as the story gets more and more ridiculous. Adorable illustrations!
CRAFT: Kite Sun Catchers
Pre-cut construction paper frames
Pre-cut diamond shaped contact paper (need two per kite)
Multi-colored tissue paper cut into small bits
Pre-Cut tail shaped construction paper or pipe cleaners
Attach one piece of contact paper to back of frame. Stick tissue paper pieces onto the contact paper. Cover with second piece of contact paper. Attach tail pieces to the tail string and add a piece of string on top for a hanger. (I happened to have one roll of clear contact paper and one of yellow transparent contact paper so I used one piece of each color on either side!)
How it Went:
Wiggley Wiggleworms today! Lots of sharing and enthusiasm, the rainbow after our ‘storm’ was so lovely. The scarf dancing was a lot of fun too! The craft turned out beautifully and everyone was so helpful in cleaning up! Thank you!
